As always, the COP meetings remain a spectacle — a political and industrial theater of the highest order. They've long since evolved into the largest gathering of their kind, and while much has been written exposing the farce that underpins it all, there’s little need to revisit that worn-out territory. Instead, let's focus on the deeper, darker mechanics at play.
The COP meetings have always served two primary purposes, and both are steeped in a web of self-interest and strategic maneuvering:
1) Securing Resources for the Developed World: Beneath all the talk of "climate justice" and "global cooperation," the primary goal has been to ensure that the developed nations continue to consume at unsustainable rates. This is the engine driving their economic model, and the demand for resources is only set to rise. Projections from think tanks and global institutions offer endless assurances that the status quo is somehow sustainable — even as per capita consumption in these countries continues to decline. These numbers are massaged, accounting tricks abound, but the core reality remains: the West needs ever more raw materials to sustain its decadent way of life. Whether it's the continued reliance on fossil fuels or the push for green energy alternatives (which, ironically, often rely on the same raw materials), the appetite for resources only grows, and COP serves as the annual bargaining table for securing these future supplies. Think coal, think rare earths, think energy transitions that perpetuate dependence on the same global power structures.
2) Fortifying the Fiat Regime: The second, less-discussed function of COP is to reinforce the global financial order that keeps the U.S. dollar at its center. Climate pledges and green financing aren’t just about "saving the planet" — they’re about locking in trillions of dollars in future debt obligations. By funneling money through complex international financial systems, a facade of global cooperation is created, but in reality, it’s the U.S. that continues to tighten its grip on the global financial system. Whether it’s through green bonds, carbon credits, or the latest eco-financial gimmick, the end result is always the same: more dollars will be borrowed, more interest will be paid, and the U.S. will retain control over global capital flows, even as it props up the very systems that perpetuate the environmental and economic imbalances we’re supposedly working to fix.
In short, the COP meetings aren’t about saving the planet — they’re about saving the status quo. The real work isn’t happening in the negotiations rooms, but in the backroom deals that ensure the flow of resources and capital remains firmly in the hands of the few.
A very annotated review on carb on credits -- which I agree doesn't deal with the problem of "the people" -- because the pollution just continues being produced.
I would offer that your description of the human conditions - needing clean water / malnutrition / basic sanitation and healthcare /disease / (and) property rights -- can be positive addressed:
--- if affordable / reliable / abundant / on-demand (I would replace "distributed" with "clean" and "extremely in-expensive" electricity where to be available.
The sorry condition for the human condition - is that such a means of installing clean / extremely inexpensive / electricity "where needed" / "as much as is needed" / "as long as is needed" exists:
--- but because there are people that "mistakenly 'think' they know better":
--- that power supply is being rebuked.
So it is a "human" problem - not just a "financial" problem - that is at the root of denying humans what is needed: i.e., the mass production / installation / and use of this power supply around the World - that is stopping the available progress - "from the bottom-up" - rather than the "scam of buying "carbon credits".
Finally - an observation: - from an Independant who has always voted on the "person" and "situation" - rather than any party affiliation - or "branding" people that hold views other than my one -- when looking at the "political position" of most all of the people "sucking up" to the Federal Funds made available by this last Administration:
--- it sure isn't people being called branded as "tree huggers" - or actively believing in and trying to fight the climate change problem they feel they see:
--- it's the business owners/ their shareholders / and their backers - who own the companies that have been polluting -- buying all of those "scam" / carbon credits - that are holding back progress needed to make better the human condition you identified:
--- hoisting themselves on their own petard.
Being the people behind the screen , pulling the levers controlling the companies that do all of the polluting while "throwing stones" -- is being both disingenuous in the least - and totally hypocritical at best.
Could I offer a suggestion for a future post? Mr. Wright has postulated that "zero energy poverty by 2050 is a superior goal compared to Net Zero 2050." I would be interested to learn how you think we, as a society, can implement that goal, and what steps are needed.
As critics of nut-zero, most of us have been quick to point out its infeasibility. To be consistent and not just branded as MAGA whiners, we should say why zero energy poverty is a better mission, and how we can go about doing it.
Tough questions. Involves capital, technology, local/regional stability, know-how (drillers, roughnecks), storage and refinery, piping and gas compression. Simple roads with distributed electricity. And none of that material or funding disappearing into black holes of corruption and gated palaces....
One prime idiot that will try to meet his commitments is our Trudeau who is never afraid to borrow more money, having accumulated more debt in 9 years than all previous governments together in 148 years of trying.
Great piece and great line: “The people in Burundi are just lining up to buy Ford Lightnings.” Hey, it’s good to see someone, anyone, buying those things! 😂😂
But seriously, the nonstop shoveling of taxpayer money (that we have to borrow) into the blast furnace that is the whole green grift machine is staggering. I truly hope that the incoming administration turns the money spigot off and reverses all the regulations.
Exactly. And the uniparty system is generally made up of all D’s and enough R’s that nothing has really changed in 50 years with the Reagan administration, but even the Great Man didn’t have enough R support to accomplish what he wanted.
Now that Hunter's been pardoned (who would have ever expected that) and the rest of the Biden clan is looking for a new grift, I hear they are considering getting into the insurance business.
Another wonderful 20 minutes while I steadily work through my morning. Thank you! Brazil? I’m game, I hear the bass fishing can be good? Mi prefiere Estados Unidos 🇺🇸
The entire process has been extremely frustrating for many of us to watch as it is clear there is very little substance to their arguments, but a lot of money is available to the entire climate grifters group because they have been effective salesmen for their cause.
It is beyond disturbing that the Biden administration is going to burn more money now, especially since the people of the US has made clear their views.
I'm willing to wager there won't even be` a COP 31
I share your frustration!!! Do you think, or maybe just wish, that COP31 could focus on reducing energy poverty instead of punishing those who aren't? see my comment above.
We’ll see what the Supreme Court says about that. A pardon is commuting a sentence for those who have been charged, tried and convicted of a crime. There has been disclosure, airing of all the dirty laundry.
Saying everyone is released from all their actions for the past decade is an amnesty not a pardon. My hope is that the Trump DOJ says the amnesties can only stand as long as all testify as to what they did in full, any holdback and they get prosecuted to the limit of the law.

Superb. Thanks for the color.
I'v dropped you a like but please don't make me go to COP30.
If you win you are free to delegate!
Interesting that in the 21st century, Germany's industrial production was in its heyday during the Trump administration.
cheap energy era.
Here's this. https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/phoc/54/12/JPO-D-24-0023.1.xml
Thanks.

Mirrors never lie -- people do.
yup
Glad we agree.
And while everyone debates, here's what NASA has been and is doing regarding the climate.

Great work, guys. Thanks.

Great article.
Ex. Angola- huge oil reserves and production.
Poster boy for inane forced green funding and solar panel projects.
Yup. Saw that. $90 million was it for a solar farm in Angola.
Exactly the point.
Yessir, Biden ate ice cream 🍦 and committed $2 billion total, Angola just laughs at us.

One prime idiot that will try to meet his commitments is our Trudeau who is never afraid to borrow more money, having accumulated more debt in 9 years than all previous governments together in 148 years of trying.
So we need an election now before he does this
Isn't he due for a 3 month trip to the Andes in S. America?

Thanks. This is the chance to show that R's & D's aren't part of the Uniparty system.

Could work for them. They know some people!. Watched that debate at MIT. Really good.
Big fans of Koonin and of Mills. Thanks for sharing!

How's your Portugues, Dave? ;)
Excellent reporting, ‘Mental.
Thanks, Robert.
Not sure we'd call it reporting but we'll take the compliment!
Hell can't come soon enough for these grifters.
They have another grift coming first.
The entire process has been extremely frustrating for many of us to watch as it is clear there is very little substance to their arguments, but a lot of money is available to the entire climate grifters group because they have been effective salesmen for their cause.

I'm willing to wager there won't even be` a COP 31
We agree except that we would not wager there will be a COP31.
The UNFCCC and what Doomberg calls the Church of Carbon won't die that quickly or easily.
It will, however, be folded in to something else. And a piece on that coming right soon.
I share your frustration!!! Do you think, or maybe just wish, that COP31 could focus on reducing energy poverty instead of punishing those who aren't? see my comment above.
It could, but it won't.
That little EPA weasel needs to be charged on Jan 21.
Pretty sure the Trudeau liberals are doing the same thing, borrowing and shoveling to affiliates as fast as they can.
Take heart. You're shoveling in smaller amounts than we are here. (Maybe in silver bars instead of gold...).
Don’t bet on it - peremptory pardons are coming for all the crooks
If so, that little weasel won't be getting one of those.
We’ll see what the Supreme Court says about that. A pardon is commuting a sentence for those who have been charged, tried and convicted of a crime. There has been disclosure, airing of all the dirty laundry.
