Here are some links regarding Chris Wright's confirmation hearing on January 15, 2025 before the Senate Committee on Energy and natural resources. My sense is that he will be confirmed by the full U.S. Senate.

Here is a nice long read that makes many salient points regarding fossil fuels. I especially like this paragraph in the event no one gets to read the whole article. I do, however, believe that the very observable extreme weather events are caused by climate manipulation, not climate change or CO2.

"After all, aren’t fossil fuel use and consumption destroying the planet and causing suffering? Isn’t it irresponsible to enjoy consumption that comes at the cost of other people’s well-being? If these claims were true, it would be cause for concern. But much of the climate alarmism involves speculation, extrapolation, and just-so theorizing – like attributing every natural disaster or “superstorm” to climate change. The scientific connection between fossil fuel emissions and the litany of real and imagined harms is murkier than most people realize."

Printing this and distributing to the shrieking old women on our Fairfax, California Climate Action Committee:

https://www.townoffairfax.org/climate-action-committee/

They've cheerled and "advised" on all-electrification, sea level rise gobbledygook, and have affected the Town Building code's capping natgas lines in new construction and remodels.

Legendary hypocrisy: The former mayor, who promotes all headlong rushes to "social and climate justice" with her credentials, a degree in Drama Therapy from NYU, was spotted unloading a beat up old bike from a Mercedes Sprinter van which she performativeley rides a couple blocks to public meetings.

Fortunately, the voters just flushed 40% of the progressives from The Town Council and appear to be heading toward rationality.

Re Nuclear power, what's your suggestion for obtaining liability insurance for power plants in the marketplace, without relying on the Soviet Style Price Anderson Act, which dumps liability on taxpayers?

Expand full comment
environMENTAL's avatar

Tough one. Comm'l insurance markets don't have the capacity for the potential liabilities across multiple power plant (94 in the U.S. operating right now). Maybe a TRIA-like (Terrorism Risk Insurance Act), where insurers collect premium for a portion of a loss up to several million, then PA comes in behind that. Have to think about that one. Good question.

That's Marin POLITICAL Alliance BTW.

There's a business with that name which has nothing to do with our writer's group.

P.s. have a client/friend. She sells "green electricity" to Marin Power. Marin Power sells it to your Fairfax Climate Karens...... at about 90 cents/kwh. Her's is coming from landfill gas-to-electricity, couple counties over to the east. Why does she get these prices? B/c the people in Marin will pay more for the optics of being green, paying a higher price on their electricity bill.

This post is completely unoriginal, I’ve already seen three just like it. Also, you should proofread your articles before publishing if you care to appear intelligent.

If it is unoriginal, it is because there are scores of us who are ecstatic about the same things coming from Mr. Wright.

Sweet Jesus, what a great post! There has been much written about Mr. Wright's nomination, but this is among the best.

"Zero Energy Poverty by 2050 is a superior goal compared to Net Zero 2050" should become the mantra of all who care about humanity.

Excellent post, expanding my knowledge about Chris Wright. I am particularly pleased to read that he is so much in favor of a transition from Coal/gas to nuclear. Electricity (not intermittent) is the basic key to bettering of human lives. When 1.5 billion Africans get access to stable electricity supply, it lays the basis for further industrialization, better infrastructure, more jobs, and consequently, the birth rate will fall to a sustainable level, just like we have seen in industrialized countries. This is a long term project, but it is the only way, going forward.

The Sierra Club states that Chris Wright is utterly unqualified to head the DOE*. Objection is not his energy experience and knowledge, rather his view on climate doesn't match theirs. Begs the question, what does the Sierra Club know about energy?

We would wager that Chris Wright has forgotten more about how energy is produced and consumed, the tradeoffs involved, the things for which it acts as a bedrock, and what will never work than all environmental NGOs + the last 10 U.S. Energy Secretary combined.
