Thanks for the laughs this morning, Mental. The environmental crazies are the gift that keeps on giving, much like the “Jelly of the Month Club” (see National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for the reference).
Interesting. Are you being facetious or do you really believe nukes aren't the answer, if so please elucidate. Explain your rationale for such a sweeping statement.
Not facetious. I retired from a nuclear weapons lab that fully endorses nuclear power plants. You can brush off Chernobyl, Fukishima, Three Mile Island and the problems in the Ukraine. But I live in a state with a nuclear waste facility that took "low level" waste but had to shut down because of an explosion. I worked on the Yucca Mountain project, another nuclear waste facility. I am a member of Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety. I get updates from Beyond Nuclear that have in-depth articles about the "popular" small nuclear reactors.
I got cancer with a recurrence. I am not overweight, watch my diet, exercise, blah blah blah. My husband died from a second cancer. Nuclear facilities admit their culpability by giving money to their "cold warriors" who got cancer. They have full DOL resources that give more money for "impairment" issues. They supply home health caregivers and nurses. I would rather have neither the cancer nor the money. But figure it out for yourself.
You can say that there are systems in place to take care of waste, but I can assure you that is just so much unicorn happy thoughts.
Do your own research. Look beyond your bias for nuclear power.
I've been busy writing to "environmental" groups I supported telling them that because of their political screes, they can no longer expect any support from me. I didn't do the modeling myself, but because I worked at a national lab as a data analyst, I was able to see how the modelers inserted their biases by beginning with flawed premises.
This TDS insanity will probably net the environmental groups a lot more cash.
Two parables come to mind. The first is "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." The Enviros have predicted apocalypse so many times, most of us have stopped listening. The second is "The Emperor's New Clothes". We are getting closer to the point when some incident (the equivalent of an innocent child's observation) will reveal what everyone already really knows - that there is no climate crisis.
"Thinking of having kids? Don’t. They’ll melt (or perhaps spontaneously combust!) before they reach pre-K." We really need to thank these people, and perhaps, even encourage them in their insanity. Like a self-cleaning oven, this kind of advice, if followed by their own, can only help society at large.
Interesting timing of your post here. An hour or so before I saw it, I happened to watch the first 20 minutes or so (again) of Climate The Movie on YouTube. The people interviewed in the film are not exactly uncredentialed rubes. I sit and wonder what the retort would be from the other side of the aisle? A simple shout of "denier!" doesn't cut it.
Always spot on! Don’t want the facts/necessity of energy importance to sneak out and spoil their hoax. DJT is a fighter. The disgraceful treatment he and his family received was truly unacceptable.
I have literally spent a good part of the last two days laughing at all the hilarious memes about Biden/Harris/Walz(😂) and how Trump just demolished them but thank you, this was whipped cream on top of that blueberry pie.
We should be so lucky for Trump to stop the non-stop shoveling of taxpayer dollars into the grift furnace of “climate change.” Now, all of those, like Al Gore (I guess he’s still alive but how would anyone know) are furious because their income stream of billions of taxpayer dollars and millions upon millions from not for profits funded by other guilt ridden liberals is drying up. Their “donations” of hundreds of millions of dollars to the lame likely stream media to cover climate change got them nowhere.
First, two thirds of all Americans would not pay $10 a month to fight climate change and consumers are revolting against subsidies for intermittent energy and outrageously high energy prices due to the Ecofacsists attempts at ignoring the laws of physics and economics.
And now this? A majority of Americans voted for the candidate who promised to pull back the curtain on the emperor who isn’t wearing clothes: the so called “energy transition.”
Absolutely! Like it or not, we are in the crosshairs now. Every hurricane, every flood, every tornado will be blamed on Trump and accompanied with the media headlines, "See Deniers, We Told You So." We'd better get it, and get it right!
Is Trump smart enough to recognize energy's importance? Until a few weeks ago, I thought so; now I'm not so sure given his "unsafe" references to nuclear. He's got at best two years to get his shit together and convince the world that it won't "spontaneously combust" (loved that reference, BTW, thanks) if we make better energy choices.
As a total aside, I ask your readers if they see the irony in the remarks from an editor at Scientific American. We were bombarded during the campaign with references to Trump's character. Now, those of us who voted for him are called "f*****g fascists." It's out there, check this link:
And I'm supposed to vote based on "character?" It is that sort of elitism that plagues the climate community and social order in general. An elite that marginalizes and denigrates those who disagree with their agenda. An elite that suggests we are not capable of thinking for ourselves. An elite whose mission was not to save the world, but to rule it.
My two cents, adjusted for inflation.
Keep up the GREAT work, guys. That fresh air is what truly stimulates climate change!
Those pesky facts!!!! Until they begin to strongly advocate for a dramatic expansion of next-generation nuclear, they are major league grifters (Gore, as the bloated king of the rats) and a few lonely hearts in search of purpose.
I made enough trips around the sun to not get very excited. The Democrats will filibuster, some Republicans will cross the isle, there are limits to executive orders, and we will make more trips around the sun. In four years people will be pissed gas still isn't fifty cents a gallon, then the game switches up again.
This is really stupid. Yes, the Earth is warming - slowly - and it is probably due to CO2 from burning fossil fuels.
That said, there are no economical at scale replacements for fossil fuels in the production of steel, ammonia (fertilizer), plastics, and cement (see Vaclav Smil). Try living without those.
It makes no sense to export manufacturing to China and import batteries, PV panels, and wind turbines from China when the energy used to produce those goods comes from burning coal - the dirtiest of the fossil fuels.
Furthermore, the products imported from China are shipped in massive ships burning bunker fuel - the dirtiest bottom of the barrel petroleum product, worse than diesel, which is burned in the trucks and heavy equipment needed to mine the minerals for the batteries and turbine motors.
This is madness - totally irrational and crazy!
If you want to electrify the grid you should support nuclear fission reactors. They have much much higher capacity factors and can run without stopping for years at a time. The record for continuous operation for ANY thermal power plant is held by Ontario, Canada's Darlington Unit 1 nuclear plant that operated continuously for 1,106 days > 3 years until it was shut down voluntarily. It could have run longer.
We import products and export pollution and environmental destruction ... and jobs.
Maybe Al Gore can use all those carbon offset credits he must have stored away to give to China so that his son can still drive his Prius on the highway at 100mph....just sayin
I'm sure they can't. I was just ranting. I have and probably because I have a bit of Al Gore DS. Now that DS has moved on to John Kerry. IMO the climate guru's are ever so hypocritical and self-righteous.
What China does care about is clean air for their people to breathe. I have seen their terrible air get a lot better over the last 30 years. Building new, better coal plants in the countryside and encouraging EVs in the cities has really helped. That strategy increases CO2 emissions but really helps people. I absolutely agree with them
It's their moral vanity that makes the left intolerant and intolerable.
Thanks for the laughs this morning, Mental. The environmental crazies are the gift that keeps on giving, much like the “Jelly of the Month Club” (see National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for the reference).
Bryce just did a great update on the amazing jobs and green economy in germany that all the renewable energy is creating.
Hint: it’s not as per what Al Gore is saying.

Nuclear power really isn't the answer. I say that in spite of the devotion to that "solution" from this group.

Like I said. We should be so lucky!
The pendulum has swung.
We have to be smart about it.
Absolutely! Like it or not, we are in the crosshairs now. Every hurricane, every flood, every tornado will be blamed on Trump and accompanied with the media headlines, "See Deniers, We Told You So." We'd better get it, and get it right!

You are spot on and passionate. Good on ya mate!

there is truth and not just cynicism in that.
I thought the Democrats don't believe in the filibuster. :-)
:)
Only Kamala, politician's are all pretty much the same animal
yup
This is really stupid. Yes, the Earth is warming - slowly - and it is probably due to CO2 from burning fossil fuels.

Insane!
The earth has been warming slowly for about 250 years.
Any effect from co2 is small and is basically done.
Smil makes it crystal clear. Life is very different without those basic materials.
Maybe Al Gore can use all those carbon offset credits he must have stored away to give to China so that his son can still drive his Prius on the highway at 100mph....just sayin
don't think those credits can be used in that manner...
I'm sure they can't. I was just ranting. I have and probably because I have a bit of Al Gore DS. Now that DS has moved on to John Kerry. IMO the climate guru's are ever so hypocritical and self-righteous.
Let's all bear in mind that much of the expressed "rage" is performative for fund raising, especially from certain NGOs.
The NGO's need to get better performers.....
Q: Why doesn't China care about CO2 emissions?
A: They are already communist.
What China does care about is clean air for their people to breathe. I have seen their terrible air get a lot better over the last 30 years. Building new, better coal plants in the countryside and encouraging EVs in the cities has really helped. That strategy increases CO2 emissions but really helps people. I absolutely agree with them
Stop defending the communists.
Can't tell if that's a joke or simple factual statement.
Works either way.
